Water sports assistant (m/f/d) (internship), (April – October) – Apply now!
In 2024, like every year, we have several internship positions available at our kite school in Holland.
As a VDWS school with internship authorization, your training will be carried out by an experienced VDWS instructor. The training should take place in 2-8 weeks and includes the following content:
- School organization and rental 10 hours
- Safety concept of the station 2 hours
- Customer and sales discussions, service 8 hours
- Basic material knowledge 5 hours
- Material care and repair 5 hours

Your tasks include supporting the kite instructors in planning and conducting kite courses. After a short training period, you will independently take care of the distribution of materials and help with station service.
You should be a team player and good at communicating. The kite school requires an open and friendly demeanor towards guests and kite students. In return, it offers you free accommodation and meals in the kite camp and the use of our equipment pool.
In addition, the basic license in the respective sport must be acquired at the end of the training at the latest. A manual serves to support the training; after successful completion, the participant receives the “Member Card Water Sports Assistant” from the VDWS.
The minimum age is 16 years. Registration is carried out by the training school. The training is documented by the school and then submitted to the VDWS office.
Once the training begins, the water sports assistant becomes a free VDWS member for two years and is entitled to use all the associated benefits. After two years or after completing the instructor course, he automatically becomes a full member with an annual fee of 51 euros.
If the instructor course is attended within two years, the water sports assistant receives a 10% discount on the course fee.
If the instructor training internship takes place at the same training school, the internship can be reduced by up to 50% (50 instead of 100 hours). If the internship takes place at a foreign school, it can be reduced by 20% (80 instead of 100 hours).
Job or profession?
More is expected of water sports teachers today than just a few years ago. Over time, schools that only offered one sport have often become large centers offering surfing, kiting, cat and dinghy sailing. The VDWS training system uses a modular system and offers the opportunity to acquire an individual professional profile and gradually expand it further. It is supplemented by further training in school management and internship supervision.
Not everyone wants to turn their hobby into a career. For some it is a job for 2-4 years, e.g. after school or while studying. With training you will learn the basic knowledge you need to teach yourself in a very short time. And the money is right too.
Course focus areas
- Driving skills training
- Demonstration ability
- Introduction to teaching and planning
- Organizational forms and practical teaching
- Conducting a beginners course
- Lessons for advanced students
- Lessons for children, animation
- Professional profile or job: opportunities and possibilities
- Material science
The courses last 8-10 days. You will then complete your 100-hour internship at a VDWS school and, if you complete your participation successfully, you will receive your windsurfing, kitesurfing, cat or dinghy license. This entitles you to train and test for the VDWS basic certificate.
